White Water Rafting in the Grand Canyon
August 26, 2009

This is Mika our river runner guide

The front of the motor raft looks like this. Because so much water comes over the top and in, I have no photos during the rapids. The rapids in the Grand Canyon range range from 1-10 on the Grand Canyon scale. Our biggest waves were about 3-4 feet which is about class 7. At one point there was so much water coming in that I could not see the person sitting next to me. We got seriously wet as promised. My camera was in a plastic zip-lock bag in my pocket.

Even though the temperature was about 105 F (40 C), we had on long sleeves shirt to protect us from the sun and provide a little bit of a barrier from the heavy, cold water.

We stopped several times including once to climb up to this waterfall.

The concession for the river rafts is operated by the Hualapai Indian tribe.

We left the river via helicopter. Each person had to be weighed to make sure the modern helicopter was not overloaded. The scale is on the floor.

I have walked out of the Canyon at the south rim in less than 8 hours. Today by air it took only 7 minutes.

Our adventure in the Canyon ended when Joyce got out of the flying machine. Then we boarded the 14 passenger van which took us for three hours back to our hotel in Las Vegas. The day trip started at 0500 and ended at 1830. We were safe and happy with another dream fulfilled.
