The Bridge of the Ship
Midnight Sun and Vardo

We were often greeted by someone interesting offering entertainment at the gangway.
Norwegians take the sun whenever and however it is offered.

There are 11 ships in the Hurtigurten fleets. Each ship passes two ships going in the opposite direction each day. The ritual is to wave towels and make lots of noise at each passing. The M/S Trollfjord is the sister ship of our own M/S Midnatsol. They are the newest of the fleet - called the Millennium class.
This breakwater was destroyed by huge waves a number of times until it was found that these tetrahedons would allow enough water to pass and still provide protection.
The captain watches from the bridge as the ship is docked at the pier.
The midnight sun. It comes down close the ocean and then rises again. The time of this photo is midnight: 00:00

Just a few minutes later and on the run to the east
A quotation from one of the men, Umberto Nobile, who first made it to the North Pole in a dirigible "Norge"

A tribute to Ronald Amundson who was leading that expedition. He died a few years later in a rescue of Nobile (who lived)
A photo of the Norge attached to the mast in Vardo. The mast is still there. Notice the reflection of the Midnatsol in the picture.
One of the officers of the M/S Midnatsol in the bridge.
Those two handles are the joysticks that control the direction of the two propellers of the ship. It is really a very, big computer game. The captain parks that ship about as easily as a Honda Civic in a Walmart parking lot.
