Some photographers visiting Martin Lake |

We arranged for a "Swamp Tour" near Lake Martin. Marcus and his truck arrived with a boat and about 5 dogs in the cages in the pickup. |

Marcus is our guide into the unknown. |

A crawfish which seems to be one of the basic food groups in this area. |

The trusty outboard designed specially to keep us from becoming stranded in the swamp. |

Here is another boat with a few extra passengers. We had another couple from Alabama, Marcus' daughter, his dog and himself. |

But the treat was seeing the wildlife up close and personal. It was almost like being back in the Galapagos Islands again. |

The snowy egret is quite abundant and this was the time for the young to be just emerging from the eggs. |

Baby egrets |

Maybe the guardian angel? |

The cypress stumps in the swamp. |

Surprisingly, there were no mosquitoes. We had lots of repellent and never even put in on. But we did see some attractive dragonflies |

It is hard to see in this photo, but this is a 10 foot long alligator. Marcus reached over the side an pulled him up by his tail. The dog went nuts, and the alligator was not really pleased. I think he was very old and beyond resisting the loving attention of Marcus. |

The noise and activity of this area was truly glorious. We stayed for almost an hour and watched the birds come and go - feed and fight. |
