In April/May, 2004 Joyce and Bob visited these three cities in Northern Italy. We arrived in Venice after a 7 hour train trip from Geneva. What a treat to step back in history and find buildings and art that were already hundreds of years old when America was visited by Columbus!!

Venice - a city of the water. In many
ways little changed from the time of 15th century paintings. No cars or
motorcycles. Numerous canals, churches, museums, shops, markets, and
tourists from all over. See Venice photos |

Florence - art
and sculpture beyond belief. Museums, churches, shops, restaurants, and
tourists abound accompanied by the hustle and bustle of cars, trucks,
motorcycles, and church bells. Much of the treasure of Florence is inside
buildings.

Siena
- An hour
by train from Florence in the Tuscany countryside, this walled city
has a treasure of churches, museums, narrow streets, shops, flags, and a
different, quieter character than the other cities. See Siena photos |
