Westmann Islands

This volcano, Eldfell, grew from flat land in 1973 and covered 400 houses with 50 feet of lava in a few days - it is now the "newest mountain in the world".

Located in the Westmann Islands just off the southern coast of mainland Iceland.

The view from the top of the volcano looking toward the town. The houses were in the black area in the center. The rest of the town was covered with up to 6 feet of ash.

(Expect to see more later)
