| We took a 17 day trip to Iceland in the summer of 2006. The first part of the trip was to the NW corner - West Fjords - of the country. Then we met with a group of geologists for a formal expedition around the ring road. The following photos and the links near them will introduce you to the highlights and wonders of Iceland. This volcano, Eldfell, grew
from flat land in 1973 and covered 400 houses with 50 feet of lava in a few
days - it is now the newest mountain in the world.Located in the Westmann Islands just off the southern coast of mainland Iceland.
