Part 7: Ranakpur - Jain Temple

We stopped at the Jain Adinath Temple in Ranakpur which is not really near anyplace else. This is likely the most spectacular temple we saw. It was built in the 1400's and has not needed to be restored. |

The Jains are strict vegetarians and do not like to kill anything. This tree was left standing and the temple was built around it 500 years ago. The tree was small at the time. The Jains allow worship only while wearing hand made clothing. They do not use any motorized transportation - just walking. (They cheerfully accept donations of modern money)

As usual all shoes come off to enter. Also, leather belts and other leather clothing items are not allowed. |
