Can you imagine the joy of riding
 in a plane like this?

I can.

My first (small) airplane ride was in a Piper J-3 Cub that looked like this. I think probably in 1957 near Pemberton, NJ. It lasted just 10 minutes, but left a longing to someday be a pilot myself. I later went on to be a pilot for over 2100 hours and fly about 250,000 miles as a pilot.

This man is the standby "battery" for starting the engine. A few quick pulls on the propeller gets it going.

The sales clerk said "Imagine yourself in that front seat with the wind blowing in your face with a parachute on your back - upside down looking up at the ground!"

Since I have wanted to experience that ride for many years, I signed up and took a ride. It is quite straight-forward to do this. They strapped on a parachute, gave me a 20 second orientation about how to get out of the airplane while it is crashing, walk out on the wing, and jump – then pull the D- ring, and let gravity do the rest. Otherwise, just relax and enjoy the short ride. My pilot sat behind me. We taxied out onto the short grass strip. And off we went. At about 3000 feet, he entered a spin heading downward in a spiral. Then he headed up and over the top as we flew upside down for a few seconds and then back down. Several variations of the theme of left-right-down-up-upside down. I find this quite relaxing and thoroughly enjoyable. I did not even need to hold on since the shoulder straps and gravity and inertia work effectively. (Note: The plane did not crash.)
