Tian'anmen
Square
Beijing, China
September 14, 2005
Tian'anmen Square is familiar to most of us as a result of a standoff here with an army tank and some demonstrators. The square is in the middle of Beijing. On one side is the legislature building and on another side is the National Museum (closed at this time). This square is huge. At one end is a large structure which is the entrance to the ancient Forbidden City. A large portrait of Chairman Mao is prominent. The Forbidden City was the headquarters of many of the old royal dynasties for many centuries.
