Day 30
| June 14 is another warm day with temperatures in the low 80's. Brood X, as they call them, are just about gone. It has been a month since the first appearance. The sound, which has been quite impressive for about a month, has disappeared. We see a few of the insects flying around, but the birds clearly have the advantage again. The following pictures show the short term legacy. The tips of many trees, especially maple and oak - but also birch, pear, and apple - have the tips of the branches ending in dead leaves. A natural pruning. Many of the tips have fallen to the ground. A few good thunderstorms should clear them away. Then, we wait until May of 2021. | |
