Cherry Blossoms 2004 in Washington DC
Washington, DC - 2008

Pictures by Robert Graf

Washington, DC is famous for the more than 3,700 cherry trees at various locations around the monuments. The Tidal basin itself has 1,405 Yoshino trees.

The blossoms for 2008 were approaching full bloom on March 26. Since the weather forecast for the next few days suggested wind and rain, I made my annual preview photo shoot in Washington. For those of us who can pick our time to visit, it is better to go a few days early to avoid the crowds of people.

I did go back on March 29 to join the crowds and see the peak bloom.

There are many ways to see the blossoms.  Public Metro Rail via the Smithsonian Station, car, bus, train, plane, stroller, wheelchair, roller blades, paddle boat, and bicycle.

In addition to the cherry blossoms, I found the magnolias, forsythia, and daffodils in full bloom.

Park Rangers give historical perspective to the cherry blossoms.

At the Franklin Roosevelt Memorial - people, waterfalls, and an airplane passing every two minutes

This is called the Tidal Basin for a reason - it was high tide and the side walk is gone!

That is a statue of Thomas Jefferson inside the memorial
