Pre-Cherry Blossoms
For those of you who are eager to see the Cherry Blossoms for 2007, it is still too early.

On March 22, 2007: The blossoms for 2007 were not yet even close to the peak bloom.

The 2007 Peak Bloom was on April 2, 2007

The photos below show how it looks before the blossoms emerge

Washington, DC is famous for the more than 3,700 cherry trees at various locations around the monuments. The Tidal basin itself has 1,405 Yoshino trees which reached the peak bloom last year on March 31, 2006.

These photos show you the progress of the blossoms in 2007: March 22, 2007

The National Park Service guidelines for forecasting suggest that these buds are at Stage 2 with a peak bloom about 15-16 days from March 22 : thus suggesting April 5-7 depending on the weather. The temperature on March 22-23 will be near 80 F so progress might accelerate rapidly.

I will update the official NPS date on this page when I know more.

This photo is interesting only if you compare it to the same view when the blossoms are at full bloom

Some trees are coming along

This magnolia at the FDR Memorial is almost in full bloom on March 22 when the temperature is now back in the 70s.

A bronze statue of Franklin Roosevelt at the FDR Memorial. The horizontal strip in the background has a quote from Eleanor Roosevelt. It says:

"Franklin's illness gave him strength and courage he had not had before. He had to think out the fundamentals of living and learn the greatest of all lessons - infinite patience and never ending persistence."

This year I dedicate the photos of the cherry blossoms to my friend, Richard, who recently experienced a severe stroke at a relatively young age. Your prayers would be appreciated for Richard and his family. May he somehow share the insight of FDR during his recovery time.

If you wish, you may offer a prayer or message to Richard in this special guestbook. I will see that he gets it.

Even if you prefer not to send a message, thanks for reading this as your thinking about him may help.
